Nebraska Poultry Industries – Association Updates

During the convention, the industry held a number of organizational meetings that will assist the Nebraska Poultry Industries in meeting the future needs of the poultry and egg industry in Nebraska. Two of these meetings dissolved the Nebraska Poultry Improvement Association and the Nebraska Allied Poultry Industries and folded their responsibilities into the re-organized Nebraska Poultry Industries. The priorities of the association over the next couple of month will be to evaluate the mission of the association in light of the changes that have recently been made and to begin strategic planning in an effort to promote and grow the poultry and egg industry in the state.

Resources of Interest to the Industry from Convention Speakers

The Nebraska Information Analysis Center (NIAC) provided the attendees with an assessment of threats that could impact Nebraska agriculture. One of the tools that can be used to address these potential threats is the Homeland Security Information Network (HSIN). This network can be accessed at http://www.dhs.gov/homeland-security-information-network-hsin and is a network to share sensitive but unclassified information that will analyze data, send alerts and notices, and share information so to ensure the safety of our food supply.

The National Agricultural Law Center is the only agricultural law research and information facility that is independent, national in scope, and directly connected to the national agricultural information network. Available at the center's website (http://nationalaglawcenter.org/) is a comprehensive list of current electronic resources for an agricultural and food law topic. Links are provided to major statutes, regulations, case law, Center-published research resources, in addition to an overview of the history and development of each subject.
